Valentine's Night Meal At The Corner Restaurant
Historically Valentines day has never been a big thing for us, but this year with it being on a Monday and not having had any Valentines-specific guests last year we thought we would be empty this year and be able to enjoy a meal out with a lie-in the following day. It didn't quite work out that way, the Valentiners found us and we had a full house at our Swanage B&B.
So no lie-in for us, just a really nice night at The Corner Restaurant in Swanage to think back on while preparing breakfast for our guests. We started with cocktails in the Corner's cellar bar; crisply-smooth Mojitos with plenty of fresh mint and a little light banter with Gary the owner.
We ate upstairs in the comfortably busy restaurant starting with freshly prepared scampi and scallops which we shared. Jude couldn't be tempted from the Creedy-Carver duck which she seems to have and love each time we come here. I went for something off the specials board - Roasted Red Mullet served on a pasta sauced with roasted cherry tomatoes and spinach and lots of richness. Jude was happy as ever with her duck, and having slowly savoured mouth-fulls of crispy-skinned mullet I found myself quite full and would have been happy to stop there.
Having declined the first offer of a desert we gave in second time round enjoying a selection of local cheeses served at the right temperature and with a matching quantity of biscuits, and a chocolaty hazzlenut mousse so good Jude was almost tempted to have a second one.
Service is smooth efficient and unobtrusive. Gary, Jane and their staff know how to be there when they are needed and remain invisible whilst you are enjoying good food and company.
We spent just over £100 for the evening including cocktails, three courses plus wine, mineral water and liqueurs. Well worth it.
